Dext alternatives in Australia

By Lily from Nectabl · Updated

Dext alternatives in Australia differ most in what they read and what they charge for. Dext costs from A$36.94 a month, and line items and bank statements cost extra.

For the two most common choices, see Dext vs Hubdoc in Australia.

Nectabl

Upload receipts, invoices and bank statements together, and get one Excel file or CSV back. Nectabl reads every line item, adds them up to the cent, and checks the GST and each ABN. It flags anything that doesn't add up, beside the original. It's free for 20 pages a month, then A$24 a month for 200 pages, charged by the page, not per user.

Nectabl's Excel preview: seven receipts and invoices as rows, with date, vendor, category, total, GST and ABN, and buttons to download Excel, CSV, JSON or a Xero bills file.
Seven receipts and invoices, one spreadsheet, ready to download.

There's no integration with Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks Online, and no bank feed matching or approvals. Nectabl gives you a file to import, so it works the same whatever software each client uses.

Hubdoc

Hubdoc comes free with Xero and files each bill's supplier, date and total. It doesn't read line items, and it doesn't work with MYOB. On its own it costs about A$17 a month, charged as US$12.

Xero now has its own capture too, called Smart Document Capture, in the Documents section of Xero. It comes with every Xero small business plan, creates the transaction in Xero and matches it to your bank feed. Like Hubdoc, it only works with Xero. Xero says bank statements are still to come.

QuickBooks Online receipt capture

This comes with a QuickBooks Online plan and files documents with the rest of your books. Like Hubdoc, it only works with its own accounting software.

AutoEntry

AutoEntry posts documents into accounting software, like Dext. It charges by the document, not by the client.

Zoho Expense

Zoho Expense is for staff who spend their own money and claim it back, with approvals. It charges per user, which is expensive when one person does all the paperwork.

ATO myDeductions

myDeductions is free, and it sends your records straight into myTax. It's only for your own deductions, and you can't get the data out as a spreadsheet.
